Working in the Wild New
Edition
A popular book just because of the subtitle!
Everything you need to know before setting out
on safari. While covering many of the usual offroad
things such as winching, recovery, and driving
techniques, it has several unusually useful sections,
including how to set up a workshop, how altitude
affects humans and vehicles, how much water humans
need in the desert, even the international air
distress code! Basic expedition repairs include
how to set up a field repair facility. It's just
a hoot to have lying around, and it would be very
difficult to get this much good stuff from one
source! Paperback, about 170 pages.

Driving Techniques
Another older paperback in reprint, this is a
handy thing to leave in the truck. It provides
a quick outline reference for basic off road situations.
It has good basic info on the more common situations,
but vehicle specific information is limited to
early US Range Rovers back to Series. A handy thing
to keep on board.

Winching
in Safety
Another older reprint, this one is a thorough
explanation of the how's and why's of winching.
It covers capstan and drum winches, vehicle recovery
techniques as well as trail clearing and other
uses. It's very good on care and selection of ropes
and wire, plus techniques for using anchors. If
you have a winch this would be a good thing to
carry in the truck with you. Paperback, 100 pages.

Car? and a host of others. Useful comparison info, model notes,
and stats: for example, how much horsepower does a Defender 90
TDi put out? (A modest 107.) You'll find most of the stuff talks
