Genuine Trailer Harness Kits

Range Rover trailer wiring kit

This is an all new, comprehensive vehicle trailer wiring kit, recently released for most models. The RRII 4.0/4.6 set is shown on top (mounting instructions are also included). The heavy duty 7 pin trailer plug with mounting bracket, relay, and module show how comprehensive these sets are. They are most important on trucks with BECM systems (RRII, Disco II). These sets are for the vehicle itself; vehicle to trailer wiring is separate (see below). NOTE: supply is still difficult, and any or all of these kits may be out of stock at any point. If so, many better trailer and RV shops can do a converter set for you.

7 round pin to 4 flat adapter: Disco 1 & 2, RR2

Trailer connector adapter for Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery

Many light duty trailers use a universal '4 flat' plug. This is all you'll need to use it with your Rover's 7 round pin system. YMZ500480

Vehicle to trailer wiring: 7 pin

If your Land Rover has a factory 7 flat pin receptacle like the one shown above left, you still need the trailer end of the deal. The round plug shown above will adapt your trailer wiring to the Land Rover receptacle shown on the left & right. Simply remove the set screw which holds the plug together, slide out the center section, and attach the wires to the screw terminals. The plug comes with a wiring diagram included, or simply take it with your trailer to a RV or rental shop (such as U-Haul) and they'll wire it up for you.

Genuine LR3 Trailer Harness Kit

These are the new LR3's trailer hookup kits, and they are neat. The big cap takes a round 7 pin RV plug: perfect for trailers with brakes. To the left is also a standard flat 4 plug, used on most light trailers such as motorcycle, jet ski, snowmobile, etc. It's an easy installation, well within the scope of the 'talented amateur'. The kit comes with detailed illustrated instructions, and the toughest part is dropping the spare tire. The wires all plug in to the harness behind the left tail light, and the plug is hidden behind the center bumper cap. We provide the 7 pin RV plug as part of the kit, and flat 4 cables are available at any auto parts store.    YWJ500220

Receiver Kits

Some models had the chassis mounted receiver fitted from new as an option, some others came without it. This would be the rectangular hole that the draw bar goes into, under the rear bumper. Comes with hardware. Discovery 2 style illustrated.

Draw Bars and Balls

The standard 2" receiver used on Range Rovers, Discoverys, and LR3's will accept off the shelf components found at your local trailer, off-road, or auto parts store. You should buy a draw bar with the correct drop and ball to match your trailer. Land Rover does offer a tow kit with draw bar and balls of different size (VUB504010), but we recommend making sure you get the right drop for your trailer.

Illustration of a generic 'draw bar', 2" square shank, about a 2" drop. The ball goes in at the big hole towards the front. There are dozens of variations, so we recommend you visit your local trailer supply store to get exactly what you need.

Freelander uses a smaller system, but these are readily available at trailer shops as well.
