Air
filters for Series Land Rovers
British Pacific stocks
the popular line of K&N filters, for all years and
models of US market Land Rovers and Range Rovers, and
at our usual low prices.
While the old oil bath air filter
does a very good job with fine dust
at low speeds, the filter is very restrictive at high
speeds, particularly when running a Rochester or Weber
carb. K&N filters ("Filterchargers") provide
less resistance to airflow, so mileage and highway
power are improved (welcomed improvements on all Land Rover
models!).
They are also serviceable, easily cleaned
and reoiled with K&N's kit, and are usable for virtually
the life of the truck.

The K&N will reduce
restriction and improve top end power and economy.
The one down side
is that the air intake 'roar' will be more pronounced
(but it's not at all bad): if that's an issue you may
want to skip it, but for those of us who like that sort
of thing it works great!
This setup requires
the stock air intake horn (permitting use of the PCV
system). Simply remove the air hose leading to
the air filter and fit the K&N on the end of the air
horn: it's that easy!
The air intake can
be pointed toward the front to allow easy access to
the valve cover and permit hood clearance on models
with recessed spare wheel deluxe bonnets. If in dusty
conditions, simply reattach the stock oil bath filter.

K&N application for Weber: RU-0690
 |
On some Series Land Rover
applications, where a Weber 1 barrel is fitted, it
is possible to fit a K&N directly to the top.
NOTE: You will need
at least 3.5 inches from the top of the carb to
the bottom of the hood for clearance. Also plan
to rejet the carb (richer), since they are not
designed specifically for Land Rover applications
and were not correctly jetted right out of the
box: exhaust valve damage could result if you don't!
We do not recommend
the use of the plastic isolator block so that the
carb can get some heat through the manifold.

Filter Care Kit: 99-5000
|
The K&N filters come
pre oiled and ready to use, and will go a long time
before the first service is required (under normal conditions).
Many folks like to go ahead and get the service kit,
just to have it handy, plus it's a bonus if you're on
a trip and you need to wash out a dusty filter. The
instructions for cleaning are provided, and even if
you aren't known for your prowess as a mechanic you
can easily do this. The kit comes with a cleaning solution
and special oil (NOTE: never use motor oil, solvent,
or transmission fluid to re-oil a K&N filter: it won't
work!). The kit is good for several cleanings.
