Update for July 2

STAGE 8 , July 2

After yesterday's miserable score, we took some time during the evening car display to ask some of the former champions what our problems were. It seemed like we were doing everything correctly and the truck was running great. We gained some valuable insights and came up with a plan: we'll add ten more pounds of pressure to the front tire, recalibrate the speedo, and revert back to our original way of running the course.

It worked

We finished with a :12 second day and an 'ACE' or perfect leg. Comparing our times to other good teams during the day confirmed that we were running on time for the first time since we put those new tires on. Our 'raw' score, when compared to the other top teams less their age factor, had us right up in the top 15 group. Age factor dropped us to 21st in position, but this was a pretty straightforward day and many teams did well.

Most importantly, the Land Rover proved it can produce winning scores. We had leg times of 0, two 1's, and a 2, (plus an 8). Those low scores were around Council Bluffs, which had steep rolling hills that required the Rover to run flat out under a load, tough conditions for any engine or drivetrain. Several other cars came in on the trailer today, and others died yesterday, but the Land Rover hasn't missed a beat, starts easily, and produces consitient performance all day long.

We knew the Landie could do it, we just had to get all the variables under control. Hopefully we can keep it up and start moving back up in the rankings.

The weather remains unseasonably cool, clear, and dry, but that could change tomorrow as we head into Denver. After a short day of flat terrain we head up in altitude and into a whole new range of challenges.

Stay with us, this could get even better! We will make some additional adjustments in our techniques at our day off, and who knows, maybe we can pick up a whole handful of slots before this deal is over with.
