You should only use the proper spec ACE and Power Steering fluid in your Rover. Using non-spec fluid can lead to mechanical problems or service issues.
Atlantic British Ltd. Repair & Maintenance Academy How-To Video: Watch Doug, our Land Rover Master Technician, show you how to access and replace the power steering pump on a 1999-2004 Discovery Series II. The power steering pump, which is part # QVB500080OE is a common replacement item, and it is recommended that the hoses related to this installation be replaced too. Power Steering Hose Kit # 9397D2, includes the pump to box, reservoir to pump, and low pressure hoses. Doug also covers the power steering reservoir (QFX100371) discussing issues that develop over time with this item. You will also need the ACE and Power Steering Fluid. Doug shows the genuine fluid STC50519 in the video. There is also now an excellent aftermarket alternative for this fluid now from Rock Oil that we recommend (and will save you a few $$.) First determine if your Range Rover is equipped with dynamic response.
Then watch Doug, our Land Rover Master Technician, explain the process involved in performing the Dynamic Response ACE-System Service for a 2006-2009 Range Rover Sport both naturally-aspirated and Supercharged.
Procedure works for vehicle models from 2006 through 2013.
ACE Filter (Item # RVJ100010) and ACE Fluid (Item # STC50519G) are needed for the service.
These items are included using our kit # ACESKB, and it is recommended that the ACE-System Service be done every 75,000 miles.
Use Kit #ACESKA for Disco 2 as the process on the Sport is basically the same for the Disco 2.

Used a low grade power steering that could not withstand the heat. Total discoloration when I changed. Use quality parts, always!!!

After reading several forums worth of horror stories that happen when people use alternate power steering fluids in their Discos I decided to purchase this fluid so I can rule it out as a problem. Yes it costs more but thats what I expected when I purchased a Land Rover.
